About Blue Yonder Coffee
I'm Jen- the face behind Blue Yonder. I started working in coffee at 18 and knew one day I'd own my own coffee business.
I've taken a few detours since then (working in refugee aid work in Turkey, Uganda, and Seattle and then transitioning to Big Tech) but excited to make this dream a reality, starting with a side hustle espresso cart. I'm working on a build out for a motorcycle or bicycle sidecar espresso bar (a la See See) but in the meantime wanted to get started serving coffee as quickly as possible and get familiar with doing events in Kitsap County and the Olympic Peninsula. ​

We served our first events in 2023 then took a hiatus for 2024 with other adventures in Denver. We'll be restarting pop-up espresso events in 2025. Follow along on Instagram to see where we'll be: @blueyondercoffee

Why "blue yonder"?
"Off we go, into the wild blue yonder- climbing high, into the sun!" So begins the Army Air Corps song I grew up hearing my grandpa sing, himself a WWII pilot. After he was shot down on his last mission, rescued by a US submarine, and safely returned to the US, the first place he went was not back to his family's home in South Dakota, but to Seattle, WA where he proposed to my grandmother. She'd been working at the Boeing plant during the war. Eventually they raised 9 kids together on a ranch in South Dakota. Despite all that work, my grandpa stayed adventurous til his last days, hiking the Grand Canyon in his 70's, rolling his 4-wheeler in his 80's, and tubing down the river in Spearfish Canyon in his 90s.

When I moved to Seattle in 2017, I was struck by the feeling of coming full circle. I'd frequently find myself humming this song on hikes while trudging uphill. I'd think back to the creative and adventurous pursuits of my grandparents and feel inspired, drawn to this idea of chasing a wild blue horizon that might never be reachable but discovering the journey alone is worth it. The idea has encouraged me to take steps out of my comfort zone so many times and that's what we hope to do with Blue Yonder Coffee- give you that boost to go after your dreams and help form connections that spur you onwards!
